RV U.S.S. Enterprise to be Rechristened
Tuesday, Jan 14, 2014 – The RV U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701, also commonly referred to as the U.S.S. Enterprise, is today having its official name retired. The ship will be rechristened the RV U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205, to be commonly called the RV U.S.S. Defiant. No ceremony is planned other than an evening rechristening which is to include a crew’s supper of “sea varmints” accompanied by red wine, and the traditional custom of breaking a wine bottle on the ship’s hull. Due to Section 3 of the Prime Directive regarding alcoholic beverages, that bottle will be safely emptied by the crew prior to its application to the hull.
Asked about the reason for the renaming, Capt. Begley said, “Much has been discussed about the purpose of this vessel, how she’s outfitted and ultimately, her evolving mission. What I could say is that her new name will better reflect a physicality and attitude, if you will, that does not fully conform to any more prevalent vessel type, large or small. Yes, I could say that but, really, the ‘Defiant’ name just sounds cooler.”
Does the name get painted on the bow or the stern? Maybe just the numbers?
Just curious…
That’s a good question, Rob. Hmmm, perhaps I should contact Star Fleet. Come to think of it, anything is possible – it’s not like I’m going to seriously crimp the value of a 20-year-old, $3K TT, hey?
Bravely going where no one has gone before!
JR, with this tub’s ground clearance and sheer size at 26′ box, 53′ total, it’s more like, “Hesitantly going where everybody and their dog has been before.”
I can understand that. I’ll hesitantly going as soon as I can sell this house.
I bought vanity license plates with my rigs name on them. (Minnesota charge $100 for them then they become yours for life and can be moved from one vehicle to another.) Not sure I’d want to drive around with Defiant on my plates, though. 🙂
Oh, that’s a good point, Linda. Might as well hang a sign on my head saying, “I have a problem with authority of any kind. Please hassle me.”
Enterprise or Defiant, it looks like my kind of trailer because of the $3000 price tag. I mean how much more can it depreciate? Lol. Its easy to accept dents and wear or the need to drill a hole in it to mount something. I would be too nervous to enjoy using a new $28,000 TT. Thanks Doug I always enjoy reading your posts.
Hey Doug I just finished reading your blog from beggining to end. Very interesting voyage and some very good info sir. Hope to get on the road again in March myself. Tried last spring and health forced me home from Texas, I am a NC native. I like the name change, shes a older rig but she is Defiant! Bill
Thanks, O-L.C.! That’s a major read, as there are over 200 posts on this thing so far! I do hope you get to where you want to go this year. I guess that in a sense, this tub is Defiant, as it’s refusing to head for the RV salvage yard where it belongs.
